Hi! My name is Renee. I am 31 years old and this is my story towards becoming a mother. It's been a long road so far but this is a great way to share experiences for other people to follow and learn from. My hope is that It may just turn out to be a source of hope and inspiration for another just starting out on the surrogacy path.
Thank you for taking the time to read my/our surrogacy journey.

Our Belated Birth Story......
This is what I have written on SMO as well......

Well I guess it’s about time that I write this since I am starting to adjust to Motherhood and am learning to multi-task among other things.

It started so surreal and yet I was living every second. Everything we had worked so hard for was now going to change and better our lives forever.

We got to KS on Thursday and met Stephanie and her best friend, Star, for lunch. As usual Steph was thinking about me and my health and took us to a great restaurant where I could add my own seasonings. It was so good to see Stephanie and I kept glancing at her belly thinking that our little girl was coming out of there the next morning.

The next morning came and we all got up really early. We stayed in a hotel close to the hospital which made it easier for all. I wasn’t nervous but so incredibly excited. We were waiting for this moment for so long that I was so relieved for it to finally be here. The birth of our sweet baby girl was about to happen and all of my anxiety was gone.

It was my husband, Stephanie, Star and I sitting in the waiting area. They called Steph to the back to get a monitor on her and then called us in a little while later. We hung out for awhile, listening to the heartbeat and meeting all the wonderful, Doctors, nurses and staff. An amazing group of people who were in just as much amazement as I was about what Stephanie had done and was going to do……give us the greatest gift anyone could give….. life!

They then took Stephanie to get her prepped and ready for the c-section. We got all our scrubs on and were ready with cameras and video. They made a great exception for us and allowed Steph’s best friend in the room to video everything for us which I am forever grateful.

We all followed the nurse into the OR and Stephanie was lying on the table ready to go. I took the seat beside her and held her hand. I don’t know if I could explain the feeling. I was quiet and in awe. As they started the section my husband couldn’t keep his eyes away from the surgery. Stephanie even joked and said he is seeing things not even she will get to see…lol

If not for the video I wouldn’t have remembered half the things that were going on. It kind of felt like an out of body experience. It was all so overwhelming and astonishing. All I remember thinking was that this all was going to perfectly well that I started getting scared. Then they announced that they broke the water and were going in to pull the baby out. I stood up and my hand went straight to my face. I didn’t cry at first but just absorbed everything that was going on around me. They held her up high and I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The most healthy, beautiful little baby girl….Megan Michelle born March 17th, 2006, 7 lbs. and 18 inches long. Spitting image of my husband but has my long fingers ...lol

They took her to the warmer and I ran over with my husband…at that point it was as real as it was going to get and I finally started to cry. I was overjoyed and simply content. Everything DID go as planned and I wouldn’t have changed anything.

The hospital was so generous that they allowed us to stay in a separate room with the baby and Stephanie was only a few doors down. I remember hearing that Stephanie had been moved out of the recovery room and into the room next door, I ran over, we hugged and both cried. I will never forget that moment. We would pop back and forth to see each other through out the stay and it was perfect.

Our experience was unique and unforgettable. I have so much to be grateful for and I thank God and Stephanie everyday!

We flew home with Megan after 4 days and she has been an angel ever since. I am getting use to being a Mom and I love it more and more…especially when she lets me sleep 7 hours…lol

This story isn’t as detailed as some others but I just wanted to make sure that those that were following our story and gave so much support got to read that there are journey’s to motherhood that go on with out a hitch!!

This has been the most incredible year of my life with so many lessons learned about life and so many more incredible ones to come.

Hugs,
Nathan, Renee and Megan
